Courses for Interior Designing in India: Admission, Colleges & Careers

Courses for Interior Designing in India

If you are the type of person who regularly moves your furniture around, cleans windows to get the perfect paint color, or critiques lighting in every restaurant you dine in, maybe you have a calling. Your Search for Courses for Interior Designing starts when the question pops up: How do you get paid to have that passion?

In these days, interior design is no longer just about “making things look pretty.” It is a complex mix of architecture, psychology, technology, and art. Whether you are a high school graduate looking to pursue a degree or a working professional residing in Lucknow wanting to make a creative pivot, this guide is your blueprint. Let’s talk about everything you need to know to about the interior design courses, colleges, and careers.

Why Formal Education Matters

Let’s be real for a second. You may have a great eye for decorating, but professional interior design is a whole other story. It deals with strength of materials, building codes, ergonomics, and space planning.

A formal course will teach you the “grammar” of design. You are taught to talk with contractors, architects and clients. You go from saying, “I think this blue looks nice,” to, “This particular shade of teal offsets the warm undertones of the timber flooring and captures the natural light coming in from the north-facing window.”

Types of Courses

Course TypeDurationEligibilityWhat You’ll Get
Bachelor’s —B.Des / B.Sc3-4 YearsB.Sc Or B.Des require 10th & 12th marksheet from Science StreamIn-depth technical knowledge related to Designing
Diploma / Advanced Diploma1-2 YearsKey Formula for fast entry in careerFocused on Practical more than theory, Skill Polishing
Certificate Courses3-6 MonthsHobbyists or professionals adding a specific skill (like CAD or V-Ray).Specific skills only. Prefer for less professional people
Professional Level (M.Des / M.Sc)2 YearsAfter having a degree of B.Des/B.Arch. These masters courses offered for specific specializationResearch-oriented, higher leadership roles, and teaching opportunities.

Top Colleges

  • NID—National Institute of Design
  • CEPT University—Ahmedabad
  • IIT Delhi, Bombay
  • VIT
  • IIAD—Indian Institute of Art & Design
  • IMS Design
  • Amity University, Lucknow
  • Integral University
  • Gov. Girls Polytechnic
  • Babu Banarasi Das University

What Will You Actually Learn?

Your course will probably be part art and part engineering. There’s a chance that you will be spending your first year hours hand-sketching and studying Color Theory. In your final year, you will be making hyper-realistic 3D renders that look like photographs.

The “Hard” Skills (Tech You Need to Master in 2025):

To make it in the business these days, you have to know your way around a computer. These are the software tools you’ll probably end up knowing inside and out when you graduate:

AutoCAD - 2D blueprints industry standard It’s non-negotiable.

SketchUp: The Simplest 3D Building Tool Out There. Consider it as digital clay.

Revit / BIM – essential on large commercial jobs where you need to work closely with architects.

AI Homestyler: more recent and cloud based AI tools that are rising in popularity as they render fast.

The “Soft” Skills:

  • Client Management: How to tell a client their idea won’t work without offending them.
  • Budgeting: planning of champagne dreams on a beer budget.
  • Project Management: Getting the plumbers, electricians and carpenters to not kill each other.

Career Scope & Salary

Driven by an expanding middle class and real estate boom, India is witnessing an upsurge in the interior designing industry.

Various paths for a Interior Designers:

Residential Designer: Homes, apartments, villas. (High emotional connection with clients).

Commercial/Corporate Designer: Offices, co-working spaces. (Higher budgets, strict deadlines).

Hospitality Designer: Hotels, cafes, restaurants. (Very creative, high visibility).

Set Designer: Design sets for movie or tv (Big in Mumbai/Hyderabad).

Salary Expectations

Entry-level compensation can be humdrum, but expansion is meteoric once you acquire a portfolio. Specialized positions, particularly in Luxury or Commercial sectors, offer much greater pay.

The chart exhibits how, even though you may begin as a junior at about ₹3.5 Lakhs per annum, it does pay off after all. A Senior Designer with 7+ years of experience can earn comfortably north of ₹12 Lakhs, and if you start your own firm or get into luxury consulting, the sky’s the limit (₹18 Lakhs+).

Admission Procedure For B.Des/M.Des in Major Colleges

For premiere govt colleges (like NID) you will have to appear for entrance exams like NID DAT or UCEED. They test your drawing ability, creativity, and spatial logic.

In case of private universities (such as Amity or Integral in Lucknow), admissions are essentially on the basis of marks secured in 12th and DAT (Design Aptitude Test) or portfolio review.

And build a portfolio, even if you’re not studying design. Draw a corner of your room. Redesign your kitchen on paper. Capture the textures you like. Your potential and passion matters, not perfection.

Conclusion

Courses for Interior designing are not for the weak hearted. Dusty job sites, demanding clients, and nights spent staring at a computer screen. But it is also hugely gratifying. There is a unique thrill in walking into a space you designed — watching people live, laugh and work in a place that began as a sketch in your notebook.

If you like to mix creativity with logic, and art with engineering, this is the year to look forward to for starting out. Whether you opt for a degree from Amity Lucknow or a diploma to begin your career at the earliest, the world is holding its breath for your designs.

If you’re a student in Delhi preparing for engineering entrance exams, you’re in luck. Artificial intelligence, and machine learning are transforming entire industries, and Delhi boasts a few truly outstanding establishments to educate the future AI engineer.

Now let me take you on a complete tour of best AI and ML colleges in Delhi— the ones that are not only making engineers but innovators who have already started making ripples in global tech companies.

Why AI & ML Education Matters Now More Than Ever

Before entering into colleges, let’s get why AI and ML are the hottest career them right now. So, you can find AI talent in every industry – healthcare, finance, automobiles, entertainment. Data scientists make somewhere between ₹6-10 lakh per year, ML engineers fetch ₹7-11 LPA, and niche AI engineers are making ₹8-12 LPA straight out of college. The top performers? They are getting packages in crores from the likes of Google, Microsoft and Goldman Sachs.

But here is the reality: that’s no guarantee that all college degrees are the same. Not only will the institute you choose impact what you learn, but also the opportunities that come your way.

Delhi’s Top AI & ML Colleges

Delhi's Top AI & ML Colleges

Comprehensive Comparison of Top AI and ML Colleges in Delhi NCR

1. IIIT Delhi: The Gold Standard

If there’s one institute that is known for offering world class AI and IT education in Delhi, it would be IIIT Delhi. This New Delhi-based government institute is essentially the IIT for information technology — prestigious, rigorous, and without a doubt excellent.

Why IIIT Delhi Stands Out:

IIIT Delhi is not simply offering instruction in AI, it is doing cutting-edge research in machine intelligence. With professors who are active researchers and the average batch size small enough to actually mentor the students, the exposure here is none other than a startup and not a classroom.

IIIT Delhi The Gold Standard

Academics & Curriculum:

The curriculum is demanding – involving data structures, algorithms, machine learning basics in Year 1-2, and then delving into deep learning, computer vision, and specialized options in Years 3-4. What makes it special? Real-world projects in which students solve meaningful problems, internships at such places as Google and Amazon, and an emphasis on research as well as engineering.

Salary packages and Placement:

Average Package₹20.76 LPA
Highest PackageFrom ₹51.31 LPA to ₹1.09 Crore
Placement Rate89.32%
RecruitersMicrosoft, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Google
Total 4-Year Cost₹2.5-15.04 lakhs

Admission

The IIIT Delhi admission cutoff is tough and it is usually based on a good rank in JEE Main/Advanced in the range of 1000-2000 for general category students. But the precise cutoff keeps on changing year to year.

2. IGDTUW: The Rising Star for Women Engineers

Being at a very convenient location at Kashmere Gate , the IGDTUW (Indira Gandhi delhi Technical university for women) is the good government engineering college only for girls and is biting the dust some of the best engineers in delhi.

A Game Changer for Women in Tech:

IGDTUW is known for producing women engineers who are not content to take part in tech—they lead it. The B.Tech in AI & Machine Learning course in this university is contemporary and aligned with industry needs.

Affordability: A 4-year degree will cost you just ₹7.07 lakhs—bringing quality AI education within your reach.

Excellent Placement Record : Highest package of ₹1 crore, average CTC of ₹18.36 LPA

Close-Knit Community: Denser batches bring better mentorship and community standardship

Government College Quality: Top faculty, rigorous curriculum, zero compromise on standards

IGDTUW The Rising Star for Women Engineers

Placement Excellence

With full-time offers amounting to 463, pre-placement offers stacking to 128, and 95+ internship offers, IGDTUW is truly proving that government colleges can match the pace and offer of private institutes.

Major recruiters: Amazon, Google, TCS and Infosys.

Admission: Delhi University entrance exam or JEE cut-off. 10+2 with PCM with minimum 50% marks.

Several students neglect to opt for IGDTUW considering government colleges are an old-age tag. Wrong. This place has state-of-the-art labs, faculty that is connected to the industry, and a record that shows women engineers from here are being hired by every single major tech company.

3. Amity University Gurugram

If you want a private college that has a good industry connection with a flexible mode of learning, the B.Tech in AI & ML Amity offer in Gurugram (near Delhi) is one to check out.

What Amity Offers:

Amity boasts its corporate tie-ups and curriculum within the industry. The campus feels less like a traditional college and more like a corporate campus — with modern facilities, industry mentors and tech talks.

Course Structure:

The teaching includes Python, machine learning algorithms, deep learning, computer vision and hands-on projects starting from Year 1. They focus on theory as well as coding.

Amity University Gurugram

The Reality of Placements

Average Package₹4.8 LPA
Fee Range for entire course₹9.36-12.6 lakhs
IndustriesWipro, TCS, Amazon

Amity University is less stringent in terms of the admission process as compared to IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW etc. The average salary provided by Amity might be less but the university concentrates on different learning patterns and discourages students from multiple competitive entrance exams.

Students can get admission through JEE Main, CUET or through merit-based with 60% in 12th class exam. This may be a good option for people who want to study at a reputable college but without the heat of entrance exams.

4. DIT University (AI, ML & Robotics Focus)

Though located in Dehradun, DIT University emerged as a preferred foray for students from Delhi in the domain of AI, ML and Robotics.

The curriculum here is specifically made for AI/ML/Robotics – so the electives and specializations are focused like a laser beam on making specialists, rather than generalists.

Latest Government Schemes 2025: Empowering India’s Growth and Development

Government Schemes 2025

As India steadily moves forward with its vision of becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047, the year 2025 serves as a milestone of double-speak reflecting the government’s developmental agenda. The central government has announced an array of progressive and inclusive schemes this year to boost the economy, enhance social welfare and ensuring that the fruits of development reach the last mote of the country.

These interventions cover the full spectrum of agriculture, education, employment, entrepreneurship and skill development indicating a comprehensive approach to building the nation. For lobbying farmers and upskilling youth to backing gig workers and opening up education, the 2025 policy roadmap aims to fortify India’s base for enduring growth.

All these schemes have transformative aspirations – generating millions of jobs, reforming technical education, raising rural productivity levels, and increasing access to health care and research. They collectively reflect a clear intent to inclusive development and self-reliance in ensuring that the story of India’s progress touches each and every citizen.

Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

Among the most challenging 2025 job schemes is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) launched on 15 August 2025, with a whopping outlay of Rs. If successful, this employment-linked incentive scheme would lead to the creation of 3.5 crore jobs in two years, with maximum benefit going to first time job seekers entering workforce.

The new scheme is aimed at the youth who makes up 68 percent of the country’s population first-time employees would be eligible to receive up to Rs 15,000 in two installments and the employers will get an incentive of up to Rs 3,000 per month for the hire of new staff. The scheme has a special emphasis on manufacturing and MSME sectors and extends financial assistance by way of direct benefit transfer to incentivise formal employment and cover social security.

MERITE Scheme: Transforming Technical Education

The MERITE Scheme is expected to provide around 7.5 lakh students the benefits of enhanced quality, equity and governance in technical education in line with National Education Policy 2020. Major interventions comprise internship options, updation of curriculum aligned with the industry, faculty development programmes, research centres and skill labs for increasing the employability and diminishing the unemployment of engineering graduates.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojna was announced by prime minister Narendra Modi in October 2025. Inspired from Aspirational Districts Programme, this scheme focuses on 100 low-productivity districts of the country covering around 1.7 crore farmers, of which the majority are small and marginal.

The schema subsumes 36 existing schemes of agriculture and allied sectors and is being implemented through 11 ministries with focus on districts which have low crop productivity, medium cropping intensity and have been identified as “having languishing status of credit flow”. The programme is expected to enhance irrigation facilities, increase crop productivity, facilitate greater access to credit and storage facilities and promote sustainable farming practices.

PM Internship Scheme

The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was launched on 3 October, 2024 with an aim to provide 1 crore paid internship in top 500 companies of India for a period of five years. The scheme provides 1.25 lakh seats for institutions which are of 12 months duration during 2024-25 and out of that duration, 6 months is to be spent in gaining practical experience. Interns in the age group 21-24 years get a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000 and a one-time assistance of Rs.6,000 along with industry exposure in 24 sectors, ranging from IT, banking, automotive, manufacturing to hospitality.

One Nation One Subscription

From January 1, 2025, the One Nation One Subscription scheme for students and faculty will cover 13,000 international scholarly journals from 30 leading publishers, allowing 1.8 crore students and researchers of 6,500+ government higher education and R&D institutions to access these journals. Backed by Rs.6000 crore for 2025-2027, ONOS is set to remove subscription barriers and duplication, providing free access to research of publishers including that of Oxford, Cambridge and Elsevier, thus making it easier to conduct interdisciplinary research and democratising knowledge in all Indian institutions – including those in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Healthcare for Gig Workers

In a major social security boost, the government also said it had registered 1 crore gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal, offering them healthcare coverage under PM Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Bharat). The program acknowledges the expanding workforce in the gig economy and offers some formal social security protection to workers in ride sharing, food delivery and other platform-based services who, until now, were without universal health insurance coverage.

Conclusion

The 2025 government schemes seem to be focused on the overall development of a nation including employment generation, skill building, farm output, excellence in education, support to entrepreneurs and social welfare. These schemes pitch in billions of dollars in investments and underline the government’s dedication to realising Viksit Bharat by 2047. If you are a farmer, student, entrepreneur, job seeker or researcher, these schemes can help you find paths to empowerment, prosperity and inclusive growth. Keep track of the eligibility requirements and how to apply through the official portals to make the most out of these programmes that are transforming the future of India.
