UPSSSC PET 2026 Syllabus PDF: Subject-wise Topics & Exam Pattern

UPSSSC PET

If you are among the lakhs of aspirants who are going to appear in the UPSSSC PET 2026 exam, you are already aware of the procedure — this exam is the filter. Clear it and a plethora of Group B and Group C government jobs in Uttar Pradesh awaits you. If you fail to clear it, and none of those Mains exams even become an option.

This is why having a proper understanding of the syllabus From day one is more important than just diving in and doing some random practice sets.

So, let’s analyze the UPSSSC PET 2026 syllabus. What is asked in the exam, marks distribution of each section and how you should prepare to crack the exam.

What Exactly Is UPSSSC PET?

UPSSSC PET refers to the Preliminary Eligibility Test, which is organized by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission. Think of it less as a “final” recruitment test and more as a preliminary screen.

It’s compulsory — you cannot even fill out the application form without a valid PET scorecard. If you pass the PET test, your score is good for three years, so you can use it to apply for multiple positions during that period without having to retake the test.

The examination is offline on pen and paper using OMR sheet and it is for basic level aptitude and general awareness and not for anything very technical or domain specific.

Exam Pattern: The Numbers You Need to Know

Before diving into subjects, it helps to understand the shape of the paper:

FeatureDetails
Total questions100
Total marks100 (1 mark per question)
Duration2 hours
Negative marking0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer
Question typeObjective, multiple-choice with four options

That quarter of a mark negative marking is worth remembering — guessing blindly can damage your score, so accuracy is as important as speed here.

Subject-Wise Breakdown

The UPSSSC PET syllabus is spread across roughly 15 sections, each with a fixed number of questions and marks. Here’s how it typically looks:

Indian History & Indian National Movement (5 questions, 5 marks each — 10 total) This spans a broad history, including the Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic culture, Jainism/ Buddhism, and leaves off at the Maurya, Gupta, Mughal dynasties and the freedom struggle. Questions on the Swadeshi Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement and the rise of revolutionary nationalism, the Quit India Movement, personalities like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the Azad Hind Fauj.

Geography (5 questions, 5 marks) Topography of India and the world, lakes and rivers and their valleys, underground water, Himalayas, deserts, minerals, political mapping, weather conditions, India Times, and population trends and movements of people.

Indian Economy (5 questions, 5 marks) This is a narrative of India’s economic path from 1947 to 1991 and thereafter — the Five-Year Plans, the mixed economy model, the green revolution, bank nationalization, the 1991 economic reforms, and more recently GST and post-2014 structural/sector reforms.

Indian Constitution & Public Administration (5 questions, 5 marks) The Fundamental Rights and Duties, Directive Principles, parliamentary and federal system, relations between the Union and the States, the judiciary, and local government through Panchayati Raj institutions.

General Science (5 questions, 5 marks) Basic Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — roughly at a Class 12 difficulty level, so nothing too advanced, but you do need conceptual clarity.

Elementary Arithmetic (5 questions, 5 marks) Integers, percentages, basic calculations, square and cube roots, powers, means and such basic and general topics in math.

General Hindi (5 questions, 5 marks) Grammar-related — synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, gender differentiation, homophones, idioms, and proverbs, frequent mistakes, and quizzes on famous writers and their productions.

General English (5 questions, 5 marks) Basic grammar rules along with an unseen passage to test comprehension.

Logical Reasoning (5 questions, 5 marks) A fairly mixed bag — blood relations, coding-decoding, number series, syllogisms, venn diagrams, direction sense, puzzles, statement-conclusion questions, and hysteresis. .

Current Affairs (10 questions, 10 marks) World and national events — that’s where being on top of the recent news really serves you well.

General Awareness (10 questions, 10 marks) A miscellany of neighboring countries, capitals and currencies, Indian states and UTs, national and international day, sports, art and culture, awards, famous books and authors and environment related issues.

Hindi Unseen Passages (10 questions, 10 marks) Two comprehension passages in Hindi to test reading and interpretation skills.

Graph Interpretation (10 questions, 10 marks) Two graphs, testing your ability to read and analyze data quickly.

Table Interpretation (10 questions, 10 marks) Similar to graph analysis, but with tabular data instead.

The following three sections — passages in Hindi, graphs and tables — carry 30 marks in total. That’s almost a third of your total marks, and it’s often the section that candidates underestimate the most.

How to Approach Your Preparation

Considering how dispersed this syllabus is, trying to learn everything at the last minute is just not going to cut it. A better way to think about this is to think of this as a marathon, not a sprint:

  • Prioritize the data interpretation sections. As graphs, tables and Hindi passages are for 30 marks, regular practice in this section can give you an advantage over other candidates who concentrate only on GK.
  • Don’t skip static GK for the sake of current affairs. History, geography, economy, and polity constitute 20 marks, and these topics remain static — once you study them thoroughly, they are yours forever.
  • Revise Hindi grammar rules actively. Many candidates, especially those confident in Hindi, tend to get careless here. Small grammatical nuances trip people up more often than expected.
  • Practice with a timer. Two hours for 100 questions sounds comfortable, but data interpretation and comprehension sections eat up time fast if you’re not used to them.
  • Use previous year papers. They’re one of the best ways to understand the actual difficulty level and question framing, rather than relying purely on assumptions about what “might” come.

Conclusion

The UPSSSC PET syllabus isn’t designed to be intimidating — it’s designed to test whether you have a well-rounded, functional understanding of general knowledge, basic aptitude, and language skills. The trick isn’t studying harder in isolation; it’s studying smart, giving weight to sections based on their actual mark share, and revising consistently rather than in bursts.

RRB Section Controller 2026: Job Role, Eligibility, Salary, and How to Apply

RRB Section Controller 2026

RRB Section Controller is the one who monitors every train to keep them on track without turning it into a chaos. The responsibility is hard but the salary is very good which comes with additional benefits. To hold the position, you must meet the eligibility criteria and understand everything about the job before applying for its application.

The good thing is this is the right time to know about this role and selection process because the Railway Recruitment Board is opening a fresh cycle for 2026.

Who Is an RRB Section Controller?

A Section Controller job is to handle the schedule of running trains. They are the ones who decide which train gets priority at a junction and which one has to wait on a line. The train moves on a signal, that signal is given by the section controller. Indian Railways trust only section controllers to move and stop the train.

It is a desk job with a practical responsibility, it comes with high punctuality and safety of the passengers. So sitting in a control room and making decisions in real time needs the full attention and focus of the person.

Indian Railways put this role under the Operating department and considered as mistakes are non-negotiable terms in this.

RRB Section Controller Eligibility 2026

This post has higher eligibility criteria compared to other RRB non technical posts as this post demands good judgement and coordination which is a higher requirement.

Educational qualification: You need a graduate degree from a recognised university, and the discipline does not matter. No matter if you are from commerce, arts, science, or engineering, you are eligible as long as the degree is completed. Aspirants awaiting their final year results cannot apply this cycle, so if your degree is ongoing, this will not be your chance now.

Age limit: The age of the candidates should be between 20 and 33 years (as on 1st January, 2026), standard age relaxation shall be applicable for reserved categories as per government rules. If you are near either limit, it is worth verifying the exact cutoff date once the detailed notification is out, since a few weeks can make/break eligibility.

Medical standard: candidates must meet the A2 medical standard to hold this position as it requires sustained attention and quick decision-making which includes specific vision and hearing benchmarks. This is more strict than a lot of other railway positions so it is worth getting a basic medical check up early on rather than be surprised later on in the process.

Nationality: Applicants should be Indian nationals or subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1962.

Selection Process for RRB Section Controller

To become an RRB Section Controller, involves clearing four distinct stages. Each stage evaluates different skills and reduces the number of applicants.

It begins with a Computer-Based Test (CBT) that tests candidates on general awareness, reasoning, mathematics and general science and also the subject knowledge related to railway operations.

The aspirants who qualify the CBT are eligible to appear for Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), a stage exclusive for posts of safety and control. This is not a test of theoretical knowledge, rather an examination of your ability to make decisions, maintain situational awareness and stay calm under pressure – all important attributes for a Section Controller.

Candidates who clear both rounds are called for Document Verification in which original certificates, proofs of category, and date of birth are verified with respect to the application.

The last step is a Medical Examination to ascertain the level of A2 fitness. Only those candidates who successfully clear all the stages are considered for the final merit list and merit is decided based on the aggregate performance in the CBT and fulfilling all the eligibility criteria at each stage.

Work Responsibility of a Section Controller

On a daily basis, a Section Controller keeps track of trains running in their section with control charts and communication devices and remains in continuous communication with station masters, loco pilots, and other controllers on the route.

In case of a delay, a breakdown, or an unusual event such as a signal failure, it is the controller who makes the decisions in terms of rerouting or reprioritising trains to reduce the impact of disturbances not on the immediate line but on the total traffic.

It’s also a job with real accountability. The decisions a controller makes influence on-time performance statistics, freight movement goals, and, in certain cases, passenger safety itself.

It is a position that rewards those who can think multiple moves ahead and keep their composure when multiple things are going wrong at once, and that’s precisely why the CBAT phase is part of the selection process.

RRB Section Controller Salary and Benefits

The selected individuals are appointed on Pay Level 6 of 7th CPC having the starting basic pay of Rs. 35,400/month. In addition to the basic salary, employees are eligible for Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, and other railway-related benefits such as free or concessional journey passes for the staff and their dependents.

Quick Overview of Fee Breakdown This is the fee structure in short for an Electrician course at a typical government ITI to make your career brighter. This will help you understand the budget of the two year course. Charge Amount Admission Fee –Given one time ₹100 Registration Fee –Given one time ₹50 Monthly Tuition ₹2,400 (₹100 × 24 months) Caution Money – given back later ₹250 Examination Fees ₹200 Student Welfare Funds ₹300 Total Approximate Cost ₹3,300 Note: The caution deposit is refundable on successful completion and your effective expenditure comes to approximately ₹3,050 for two years — Now that’s reasonably priced! Understanding the ITI Fee Structure The nice thing about government ITIs is that they are hilariously cheap when compared to private ones. With private ITI colleges charging fees ranging from ₹5,000 to more than ₹1,000,000 per year, fees of the government ITI colleges are affordable and it goes from ₹1,000 to ₹20,000 per year. So, students from all financial backgrounds can get quality technical education. But it's not just a single figure for the fee structure to pay and forget about it. The fees in government ITIs are divided into several heads, each of which is for a certain purpose. Knowing what all these entails will allow you to plan your finances so you don’t get a shock when it is time for admission. Tuition Fee: The Core Cost The tuition fee is the staple of your yearly outgoings. It is from ₹100 to ₹150 per month at most government ITIs in India which works out to be from ₹1,200 to ₹1,800 per year. For reference, the West Bengal government ITIs charge a total fee of ₹30 per month as a tuition fee, implying that you will be spending only ₹180 for the entire six-month course. These vary from state to state and institution to institution, so be mindful! The annual tuition fee for regular trainees, however, is Rs 1,800 (Rs 150 per month) at some government institutions such as the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Patna. Yet if you are from SC/ST, you pay a lot less – just Rs 600 per year (Rs 50 per month). It is indicative of the government’s resolve to open the door of education to the underprivileged sections of the society. Admission Fee: One-Time Payment Consider the entry to the admission fees for the institution you are wants to apply. This is a one-time fee that you pay once you join and not every year. The admission fee is usually around ₹100 to ₹300 for most government ITIs. This is phenomenally low, and includes the cost of processing your application, verification of your documents, and the registration procedures. Interestingly, some institutes offer concessions to SC/ST students. For example, SC/ST students will have to pay Rs 25 instead of Rs 100 as admission fee. Registration Fee There is also a registration fee separate from the admission fee and the registration fee is usually between ₹30 to ₹200. This is for registering your enrolment with the records of the institute and getting you listed with the official registers. It’s a non-refundable fee which is paid generally at the time of verification of admission. Again, if you belong to SC/ST category you may get waived off from paying this fee in some institutes. Caution Money: A Security Deposit Important to understand: Caution money isn’t a fee that you are wasting. It’s a security deposit that is refunded. You pay it once (usually between ₹ 100 to ₹ 500) while admitting and you get it on successfully completing the course. This sum of money serves as a kind of insurance to keep students finishing their training and disciplined. Additional Funds and Charges In addition to the basic fees, the Govt ITI s also levies different student welfare and infrastructure enhancement funds which may be used for welfare activities of the students, for up-gradation or improvement in infrastructure. These might include: Gymkhana Fee Up to ₹100 To get along with sports and extracurricular activities Student Welfare Funds ₹50 to ₹375 Contributing to overall student development programs Placement Registration Fee Approximately ₹50 Helping the institute organize campus placements Smart Card Fund Around ₹200 For issuing digital identity cards Examination Fee At the time of examination, an institute usually levies a test fee of ₹25 to ₹100 per attempt. This includes the cost of holding exams, drafting question papers and conducting tests. Total Annual Cost For ITI Government Add all this up and see what the real number you’re looking at is. For a normal engineering trade class (say Electrician or Fitter) in a government ITI. First Year Fee is in range between ₹2,400 — ₹3,500 Subsequent Years As it vary on state, ₹1,500 to ₹2,000/year Delhi institute registration fee is Rs.200, so if you are applying there then this is the amount you have to pay at the time of verification along with the other applicable fees, which is quite nominal. Special Provisions and Exemptions For Girl Students A large number of Government ITIs provide relaxation to female trainees. Girl students are exempted from tuition fees as well as examination fees at institutes such as Patna's NSTI, rendering the course free for girls (the only exception being other compulsory deposits and fees). A few states have adopted similar policies to incentivize women to take up technical trades. For Reserved Categories There are hefty discounts for students who belong to the SC, ST, OBC or EWS category. Tuition is often waived or discounted to a token sum. In the ITIs of Odisha, the admission fees are waived for the trainees from SC, ST and women category whose family annual income is less than `2.5 lakhs, they have to pay only the caution money. For Persons with Disabilities (PwD) The government ITIs are said to extend exemptions and concessions to the special needs students, because 'they are handicapped and the financial burdens of study should be thrown off from their shoulders'. State-Wise Variations For the Fee of ITI One should note that the ITI fees vary according to states since education is a subject of state in Indian federalism. For instance, in Tamil Nadu, government ITIs charge anywhere between ₹5,000 and ₹7,000 per year, while in Himachal Pradesh, they charge between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000. With competition fees, states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have the biggest network of government ITIs. Conclusion When you take into account that you are learning practical skills that are directly applicable to jobs in the public and private sectors, that is a huge amount of bang for your buck. Whether you are just finishing school and want to start your career or are planning a career change, government ITI courses provide a cost-effective, quality route to technical proficiency. The best way to get the most update on ITI Admission Fees in Government College is to go on your state’s ITI official website, check under what category you fit under for exemptions and email the best would be to the lucky one you want to attend for any questions. Your path to a rewarding career might be more affordable than you think! Understanding the ITI Fee Structure

The nice thing about government ITIs is that they are hilariously cheap when compared to private ones. With private ITI colleges charging fees ranging from ₹5,000 to more than ₹1,000,000 per year, fees of the government ITI colleges are affordable and it goes from ₹1,000 to ₹20,000 per year. So, students from all financial backgrounds can get quality technical education.

But it’s not just a single figure for the fee structure to pay and forget about it. The fees in government ITIs are divided into several heads, each of which is for a certain purpose. Knowing what all these entails will allow you to plan your finances so you don’t get a shock when it is time for admission.

Tuition Fee: The Core Cost

The tuition fee is the staple of your yearly outgoings.

Admission Fee: One-Time Payment

Consider the entry to the admission fees for the institution you are wants to apply.

Registration Fee

There is also a registration fee separate from the admission fee and the registration fee is usually between ₹30 to ₹200. This is for registering your enrolment with the records of the institute and getting you listed with the official registers. It’s a non-refundable fee which is paid generally at the time of verification of admission.

Again, if you belong to SC/ST category you may get waived off from paying this fee in some institutes.

Caution Money: A Security Deposit

Important to understand: Caution money isn’t a fee that you are wasting. It’s a security deposit that is refunded. You pay it once (usually between ₹ 100 to ₹ 500) while admitting and you get it on successfully completing the course. This sum of money serves as a kind of insurance to keep students finishing their training and disciplined.

Additional Funds and Charges

In addition to the basic fees, the Govt ITI s also levies different student welfare and infrastructure enhancement funds which may be used for welfare activities of the students, for up-gradation or improvement in infrastructure. These might include:

Gymkhana FeeUp to ₹100To get along with sports and extracurricular activities
Student Welfare Funds₹50 to ₹375Contributing to overall student development programs
Placement Registration FeeApproximately ₹50Helping the institute organize campus placements
Smart Card FundAround ₹200For issuing digital identity cards

Examination Fee

At the time of examination, an institute usually levies a test fee of ₹25 to ₹100 per attempt. This includes the cost of holding exams, drafting question papers and conducting tests.

Total Annual Cost For ITI Government

Add all this up and see what the real number you’re looking at is. For a normal engineering trade class (say Electrician or Fitter) in a government ITI.

First YearFee is in range between ₹2,400 — ₹3,500
Subsequent YearsAs it vary on state, ₹1,500 to ₹2,000/year

Delhi institute registration fee is Rs.200, so if you are applying there then this is the amount you have to pay at the time of verification along with the other applicable fees, which is quite nominal.

Special Provisions and Exemptions

For Girl Students

A large number of Government ITIs provide relaxation to female trainees. Girl students are exempted from tuition fees as well as examination fees at institutes such as Patna’s NSTI, rendering the course free for girls (the only exception being other compulsory deposits and fees). A few states have adopted similar policies to incentivize women to take up technical trades.

For Reserved Categories

There are hefty discounts for students who belong to the SC, ST, OBC or EWS category. Tuition is often waived or discounted to a token sum. In the ITIs of Odisha, the admission fees are waived for the trainees from SC, ST and women category whose family annual income is less than `2.5 lakhs, they have to pay only the caution money.

For Persons with Disabilities (PwD)

The government ITIs are said to extend exemptions and concessions to the special needs students, because ‘they are handicapped and the financial burdens of study should be thrown off from their shoulders’.

State-Wise Variations For the Fee of ITI

One should note that the ITI fees vary according to states since education is a subject of state in Indian federalism.

Conclusion

When you take into account that you are learning practical skills that are directly applicable to jobs in the public and private sectors, that is a huge amount of bang for your buck.
