RRB Technician Eligibility For 2026
Age is counted as on 1 July 2026. The limit is 18–30 years for Grade III and 18–33 years for Grade I, with relaxations for reserved categories under government norms.
On qualifications, candidates need Matriculation/SSLC plus an NCVT/SCVT ITI in the relevant trade, or an Act Apprenticeship, or 10+2 with Physics and Maths, or an engineering diploma or degree, as specified in the notification.
Exact trade-wise requirements vary by post, so verify yours in the official notification of the RRB Technician posted on the official website.
RRB Technician Exam Pattern and Selection Process
Whichever post you applied for, you’re facing one CBT. It has 100 MCQs for 100 marks in 90 minutes, with 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer, and there’s no psycho test (CBAT), so selection rests on this single score.
Don’t start new topics now. If you’re a Grade III candidate, General Science carries 40 of the 100 marks and is roughly Class 10 NCERT level, so it’s the highest-return revision you can do. Take one timed full-length mock every day at your actual shift time. RRB has also released official mock tests for Grade I and Grade III.
After the CBT comes document verification and a medical examination. There is no interview, which puts the full weight of selection on that one paper. There were 6,557 vacancies in total: 323 for Grade I Signal and 6,234 for Grade III. The qualifying marks are 40% for UR/EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST.
The pay is the reason this queue is long. Grade III sits at Pay Level 2, starting at Rs. 19,900 basic, while Grade I Signal starts at Pay Level 5 with Rs. 29,200 basic.
